I've been loving diving back into the world of The Elder Scrolls 4 - Oblivion, this time with updated graphics and many of the same quirks.

In this post we'll go through a simple infinite gold farm that works from early to end game without cheating.

Getting Gold Quickly

To get gold quickly we're going to be (ab)using the Alchemy system. This is a great skill that allows you to turn all the raw ingredients you pick up along your journey into valuable and eventually powerful resources - potions.

There are many ways to do this but the best cycle I've found is going through Skingrad.

Prerequisites:

  • Alchemy Tools - Join a mages guild and pick some alchemy tools up from there

Cycle:

  • Go to Skingrad's stable and pick all the grapes in the farm - nets 120 grapes
  • Go to Skingrad's East Gate, go out the gate and turn left til you find a tomato patch - picking all of those nets 91 tomato
  • You can mix these together to get a Restore Fatige potion

120 grapes + 91 tomatos = 91 Restore Fatigue Potions (and left over grapes)

At early Alchemy levels, each potion will be worth ~10 gold. So this is a quick way to get 900 gold plus the plants will respawn in ~3 days so you can keep doing this over and over.

But it gets better - as soon as you hit Apprentice, you have a chance to create an additional potion and at Expert you always craft an additional potion. You're going to be ranking up fast as you grind potions so this quickly turns your 900 gold run into an 1800 gold run.

But it gets better - as you rank up in Alchemy and use better equipment, the price merchants will pay for your potions goes up. I'm currently a Master alchemist and my potions go for 30+ gp. So as you rank up this 1800 gold run will quickly turn into a 5400 gold run.

But it gets even better - once you hit Master, you can start making potions with a single ingredient. Now instead of making 91 Restore potions we're making 211 and getting 422 out of it. At ~30 gp a pop - we now get ~12660 out of each run!

Not endless per se but more than enough to buy most things directly in the game. And if you're willing to wait those 3 days for the plants to grow back, you can come back and do it again!
