I made fun() tshirts

Everyone knows that F# is fun. Okay maybe not everyone but I hope at least the 12 of you that use F# and read these posts know that.

And that's the problem. F# is a great technology but is tragically under loved - placing 37th in global programming language popularity. So I decided to spread the fun() by making tshirts.

Why I made fun() tshirts

You may not know this but I used to fashion myself as something of an artist. Back in 2020 I ran an online store selling prints, stickers, and clothes.

It was never profitable and I ended up moving away from it to focus on my other projects. But I've largely left it online in a minimal passive state because it doesn't cost money or maintenance.

Recently I got jealous of the "cool" swag that other tech fandoms were churning out and I wanted to have some swag for one my favorite technologies - F#. One of my favorite versions of this is HTMX's swag collections which is very fun.

The running tagline of F# is that F# is fun. I wanted an ode to F# that also didn't infringe on any copyright stuff so I focused on the fun bit and dropped any ideas using the logo / name itself.

F# uses fun to declare anonymous functions but it's not clear enough by itself that it references code vs just a random word on a tshirt (which I've also made in the past). So I went with fun() to make it more clear that it's code - this is also valid F# representing an anonymous function with a unit value.

Where can you buy a fun() tshirt

Shirts are available on HAMY SHOP.

I believe they ship to most of the world so I think are available to most people.

How I made these tshirts

I try to stay away from physical goods and manual labor because it often brings with it a lot of costs / complications / annoyances with little reward. I usually don't find these pursuits very fun and I'm not particularly good at them so often these just have poor ROI compared to other projects I like more - usually building stupid little websites.

That said I found a Simple Scalable System for selling clothes online several years ago that minimized costs / annoyances while still leading to reasonable outcomes so that's what I went with here.

  • Store: BigCartel (free version)
  • Clothes Creation / Fulfillment: Printful (referral)

I hope you have as much fun() with these shirts as I have.

Let me know if you have suggestions for how to improve these designs or other designs you'd like to see and I'll look into adding them.
