How much money my 2k subscriber YouTube channel made in its first month of monetization

I've been running my HAMY LABS YouTube channel for about 4 years now and it finally got monetized last month.

In this post I'll share how much money it made in its first month of monetization.

Channel Lifetime Stats

  • Subscribers: 2k
  • Videos: 193

HAMY LABS is a YouTube channel where I share Simple Scalable Systems for tech and business applications. Most of it follows problems / ideas / solutions from my own software engineer / founder journey.

To be monetized on YouTube you need 1k subs and 4k watch hours in the past 12 months. I've had the 1k subs for over a year (~2022.07) but never had enough watch hours to pass the theshold. A few months ago I released a Palworld breeding guide which got a bunch of traffic from the game's popularity and moved me beyond the threshold - thus allowing me to get monetized.

HAMY LABS YouTube Stats

Stats from the past 28 days:

  • Revenue: $61.80
  • RPM: $2.79

Highlights:

  • Max: $5.05
  • Min: $1.32

It's not a lot of money and pays way below minimum wage if I were to calculate this as $ / hour but it's something and that's a start. I largely create these Shares as a way to solidify my own ideas so if I can make enough money to keep doing it (and pay for coffee) then I'll be pretty happy.

Top Videos by Revenue

Ads based businesses are often pretty finnicky because they are very dependent on macro economic trends. For YouTube this mostly means shifts in RPM based on the state of the economy and the niche a piece of content fits into.

Here are my top 5 videos by revenue including their estimated category and RPM.

Overall I'm pretty happy w the state of my Shares and it's nice to have a bit of money coming in to balance out the costs of running the channel. Hopefully it'll cover my coffee expenses in the near future.
