I've just finished book 5 of The Wandering Inn series.

There's a lot more to go (currently 16 in the series) so I wanted to take a moment to give my review and whether the series is worth it.

The Wandering Inn

What it is:

  • A kind of isekai where people from our world get sucked into a new world of might and magic.
  • A LitRPG which often reads like an anime with long, loose story arcs and bits of intense action.

Review

Story: 4

The story is good. Not as dialed in as a Brandon Sanderson novel but interesting arcs and characters and a large world. The fights and action are cool and the magic / politics are interesting to think about.

Characters: 4

The characters are decent if a bit annoying at times - part of the anime similarities. There are a wide array of characters with different backgrounds and it's fun to follow them through the world and see how they grow (or die).

Production: 4

The writing is fine. It's not as tight as a novel but does well in its story telling.

Overall: 4

Def a good read if you're into fantasy and are looking for something lighter. I will probably go on to finish the full series.

One caveat is that there are graphic / violent bits and themes every now and then so would probably not recommend to teens or younger.
